The Children’s Flight Centre is one of the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre’s most popular attractions. The gallery offers programming and exhibition spaces for children between kindergarten and grade 10 to learn about aviation. This project involved transforming the Flight Centre to modernize existing offerings and create a more welcoming, accessible, and engaging destination for families and school groups. Origin Studios worked in close collaboration with the in-house team to develop the Flight Centre’s Interpretive Plan, preliminary design for fundraising, fabrication estimation, and overall project planning.
The project’s design introduces flexible education and programming spaces, immersive play-based environments, and a variety of hands-on installations that demonstrate principles of physics. Newly-refreshed exhibits include So, You Want A Career in Aviation? and The Science of Flight. Combining dynamic interactives with innovative exhibit design, the renewed Flight Centre design blends storytelling with technology, encouraging children across a wide age range to explore aviation through self-guided touch, movement, play, and experimentation. Improved visitor flow and a thoughtfully-designed environment create a more engaging and intuitive experience, allowing young learners to navigate the space at their own pace with ease.
